Entire class presentation on: Banner Bag Project by SFU students - Wed. Oct. 23rd
Level 1: Continue to work on small bag project. Practice sewing button holes. Projects Due by end of class on Oct. 28th.
Level 2/3: Continue to work on projects: robes, hoodies, pants, jackets
Day 13 &14 (Oct. 15/17)
Level 1: finish putting together your seam sample package and hand in. Begin small bag project. Choose fabric, draft pattern, cut fabric, begin sewing. Incorporate at least one button and button hole and at least one new seam or seam finish you learned from the seam sample project.
Level 2/3: - Continue to work on projects: robes, hoodies, pants, jackets.
Day 11 &12 (Oct. 8/10)
Level 1: Work on seam finish samples. Watch demo on how to use the serger.
Level 2/3: Continue to work on projects: robes, hoodies, pants, jackets.
Day 9, 10, 11 (Sept. 30-Oct.4)
On Sept. 30th we had a guest speaker from the Art Institute, Hillary Quick, speak to us about the programs offered at the institute.
Level 1: Work on sewing samples and complete all seam samples by end of week.
Level 2/3: begin to sew projects.
Homework: purchase/find/label all sewing supplies and have at school by end of week.
Day 8 - Thur. Sept. 26, 2013
Level 1: Stitches sample is past due. Work on sewing samples assignment and complete seam samples #1-4
Level 2 and 3: finish up pining and have checked by teacher before you cut out
Homework: purchase/find/label all sewing supplies and have at school by end of month.
Day 7 - Tue. Sept. 24, 2013
Level 1: Complete stitches sample. Finish cutting out all rectangles. Read over standard seam allowance worksheet and sew and press sample #1 - basic seam.
Level 2 and 3: same as last class.
Homework: purchase/find/label all sewing supplies and have at school by end of month.
Day 6 - Thur. Sept. 19, 2013
Level 1's worked on the stitches sample and handed in once done. You did a quick review on the basic pieces of equipment (name and functions). You began the sample project and cut out all of your rectangles.
Level 2: finished tracing out patterns and began to layout pattern.
Level 3: work on individual projects.
Homework: purchase/find/label all sewing supplies and have at school by end of month.
Day 5 - Tue. Sept. 17, 2013
Today level 1's finished off the parts of the machine worksheet and corrected/checked answers. Began work on sewing sample with many different stitches. Level 2's began work on robe/hoodie project. Level 3's worked on individual projects.
Day 4 - Fri. Sept. 13, 2013
You handed in your signed contracts and I checked your signed course outlines. You labeled your sewing drawers. Level 1's worked on a diagram of the machine and what the parts do for a review. Level 2's learned about machine needles. Level 2's decided on making a robe or a hoodie as first project. Some choose fabric from room.
Day 3 - Wed. Sept. 11, 2013
We started off the class with some sharing of items you have made. Great work to all of you that remembered to bring in something(s) you have made and shared with the class. Many have been inspired to do similar projects! You were seated by level and assigned a sewing machine to use this year. During the last part of the class level 1 practiced threading the machines with the help of level 2's. You handed in your signed contract and I checked your signed course outlines.
Day 2 - Mon. Sept. 9, 2013
We went over the course outline and the course contract. You finished up your JOY assignment and handed it in. You worked on the Basic Sewing Vocab worksheet. We went outside to sit in the sun for the last part of the class and shared what we have made. Lots of very unique and creative items were shared!
Homework: share the course outline and contract with your parents and have them sign and return to class with it this week. Bring in something you have made if you forgot today.

Today was our first class. You helped set-up the sewing machines on the sewing tables. I shared with you this website and what I've included in it and some of the projects I have in mind for the coming year. You answered a course preview sheet about your past sewing experience and your hopes for the year in this course and beyond. You started on the JOY assignment and will finish it in class next day and share it. Next class we will go over classroom expectations, course outline, and learning contract. I'll assign drawers for you to keep your supplies in. I really enjoyed meeting all of you today and look forward to our year together!
Homework: to bring in at least one item you have sewn, knitted, etc. to share with the class next day.
